PeerMind
A learning-companion prototype exploring guided questions, topic tracking, and study plans.

Historical project; AI-assisted development. Individual and team contribution has not been independently verified.
The idea
The problem
Build a study flow around topic sessions and guiding questions, with conversation history and progress signals that can be revisited.
The implementation
What I built
The source connects persistent topic sessions, a Socratic-style prompting flow, parsed progress signals, and a study dashboard.
Features
- Start a topic-specific study session and keep its question/answer history.
- Prompt for guiding questions and parse an accompanying model-generated mastery marker.
- Display topic progress, stronger/weaker topics, and session summaries.
Architecture
- React setup, session, chat, and dashboard views connect to a single FastAPI application.
- SQLite stores users, sessions, messages, and mastery records; an HTTP client calls Groq and separates a MASTERY marker from displayed response text.
Engineering decisions
- Treat the model's mastery value as a display heuristic rather than a validated assessment of learning.
Validation and measured results
- Source reviewed on 15 October 2026. The application and its external integrations were not executed in this review.
- Reviewed SQLite initialization, session/chat routes, extract_mastery, history, and dashboard queries. No tutoring-quality or learning-outcome study was run.
Limits and unfinished work
- Prompt instructions do not guarantee Socratic behavior. Mastery percentages and historic response-time claims are not independently validated.
- Older source can contain superseded descriptions. Numerical impact, adoption, awards, and deployment claims are not carried into this entry.
Evidence and sources
- Reviewed source and implementation
